Sarah Eakin reports on all things horse

WEF 2023 Throwback

We shot footage of Canada’s Asta Torokvei as she competed on Clear Concept and Karmino Z in WEF’s International Arena. Last year she had trainer Conor Swail on hand and has worked with the leading Irish rider since 2016. She had this to say about his approach:

“Conor has helped me be a little bit more relaxed,” Asta said. “Just being able to take a breath and just be calm, which he does very well. When we first started, that almost stressed me out more just because he’d be so casual – he’d be 6 out and just chatting with somebody. If that was reversed, I’d be twelve out and be right. I need to be on the horse, I need to start warming up whereas he’s just like this is fine. We’ll get our jumps in, we’ll get to the ring, there’s always enough time, it will be okay.”

Conor will be missed at WEF this year as instead of commuting from West to East Coast as he’s done in the past, this winter he’s staying out in California for the Desert Circuit.
